Tom Lai is currently studying in the BCIT Digital Animation program, anticipating graduation in the summer of 2012. Tom previously graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Interactive Arts. He specializes in designing multimedia experiences for digital medium like the web. Going to school at BCIT is a step towards a dream to become more involved in the digital media industry.
Post graduation from SFU in 2006, Tom worked for 4 years at a software development company based in Vancouver focused on delivering web-based incident tracking and reporting solutions with many clients in the Fortune 500. Tom initially signed on as a web designer, then moved onto specification writing and software UI design when the opportunity arose. With great work ethics and passion to design, Tom’s contribution to the company was recognized by his supervisors and was subsequently promoted to Product Design Manager. One of the greatest challenges in product design is to take in feedback from valued clients, seeing the real needs behind them that fit within the company’s road map, and then reflected those in functionality and usability of the product. A challenge that Tom tackled with passion. Learning from his experiences, Tom possesses skills that are invaluable to any creative positions; the ability to listen, conceptualize, and execute. Along side professional work, Tom also takes pleasure in practicing traditional art at leisure to build his sense for aesthetics, keep a flexible mind and an eye for detail. With a creative background and adventurous heart, Tom moved on to seek further opportunities as a 3D modeller.
